11A Worship - A Storied Name

Greetings Friends in Christ!

As we continue discussing the making of an embassy church, we now turn our attention to the idea of names in the Bible and their relation to stories and heritage. Philosopher Byung Chul-Han neatly contrasts modern “storyselling” with storytelling in The Crisis of Narration. The problem is that society has turned stories into products and that has made the gospel a sales pitch and something to be brand-loyal to, rather than an heirloom we steward for future generations. This means churches are often divided on doctrine and among generations. We’ve sought unity not through shared story, but through shared sales-pitch and product lines. Being ambassadors of reconciliation means rediscovering the heirloom of the gospel, seeing others as part of a family tree rather than as competitors, and seeking a family reconciliation. In this way, we will foster a new generation who are passionate about the treasure of Jesus.
