11A Worship - Peter Gets Fished Out

Dr. Gregory Wagenfuhr

Greetings Friends in Christ!

We continue with our series on Peter as we follow his call and life becoming an ambassador of Jesus. We began looking at Peter receiving the call to be a fisher of people. Today we move from fishing people out of the water to walking on top of it! As with many miracles, it is tempting to stop and focus on whether it happened, could happen, or not, and miss the meaning. Certainly Jesus did other miracles that aren’t recorded. The gospels record what they do because the authors are making a point with the stories they select. Reaching back to the story of Jonah, we see Jesus commanding the wind and waves and calling his disciples to join him. God empowers his people for his mission, transforming creation from an enemy into the ally it was always meant to be. So we see that faith is not blind confidence that God can “beat” the laws of physics and that we can too if we try hard enough to believe it, but the confidence that God will empower his people to do what he’s called them to.
