11A Worship - Hannah's Song

Feb 9, 2025    Curt McFarland

The music we listen to, and sing, often reveals who we are, and what we believe and value. It’s been that way from the earliest days. Throughout the Bible songs are mentioned, instruments identified, those skilled with voice are gifted and called by God. Songs are often inner prayers … voiced to God. What song do you sing?

“You ain't nothin' but a hound dog, cryin' all the time …” (E. Presley)

“I wanna know what love is, and I want you to show me …” (Foreigner)

“You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, with four hungry children and a crop in the field …” (Kenny Rogers)

“Come along baby wait and see, I'm going to take you surfing with me …” (Beach Boys)

What song/prayer do you sing? Two songs I sing …

“Caught between the longing for love, and the struggle for the legal tender. Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring and the junkman pounds his fender …” (Jackson Browne: The Pretender)

“Lord of the Starfields, Ancient of days, Universe maker, Here's a song in your praise …” (Bruce Cockburn: Lord of the Starfields)

I enjoy a variety of music: Jazz, Rock, Classical, Country, Christian … I left Rap and Reggae off my list. Songs often become prayers …

This morning the prayer/song in Hannah’s heart pours out and reveals who she is, what she believes, and the condition of her soul. What songs do you sing? Do they reveal the condition of your soul?
